Charles Mok e-Bulletin: A new start in LegCo
The new session of LegCo has commenced on October 1. Over the past month, my team and I have geared up to deliver my promises made during the election.
1. Archive Law
The recent Yuen Long housing plan controversy revealed the urgent need for the implementation of Archive Law and Information Act in Hong Kong. I will work closely with other Legco members and civil organisations to push the government to enact the two laws.
2. Monitoring the government’s policy implementation
Council meetings will soon resume and I will put forth both written and oral questions to press the government to reveal the details and progress of the InnoTech funds and Technology Voucher, and also issues regarding the government data record keeping.
3. Singapore’s secret weapon to foster innovation
In a visit to Singapore last month to attend an entrepreneurial event, I had the opportunity to exchange with officials and MNCs on the latest measures Singapore takes to foster innovation. In particular, the Singapore government took the initiative to launch their own Government Digital Service to reform public services using data and technology, and actively help startups to grow and seek business opportunities, both of which are what Hong Kong government underperform.
4. The Professional Guild
On September 26, I have teamed up with other five democratic FC members to form the Professional Guild, in a bid to bring together the professionals inside and outside Legco for closer collaboration and our first fight will be the coming Election Committee Subsector Elections in December. Our members include: Hon Dennis Kwok, SC (Legal FC), Hon Kenneth Leung (Accountancy FC), Hon Ip Kin-yuen (Education FC), Hon Shiu Ka- chun (Social Welfare FC) and Hon Edward Yiu (Architectural, Surveying, Planning and Landscape FC).
